Sherry Mayfarth is a full time elementary school teacher and part time basketry artisan. Sherry is passionate about making beautiful and functional baskets. She started weaving baskets in 2006 when her teaching colleagues began taking basket making classes in Lake Lawrence, Wa. Soon her home was filled with baskets and she was teaching basket weaving to friends and family in her home. Summer of 2009 Sherry taught a week long basketry class at Ghost Ranch in Abiqui, NM. Now she is a member of Ebb Tide Gallery, owner of Joyful Basketry, and has a basketry studio at her home where she weaves her baskets and teaches others to weave. Baskets are vessels of effort, creativity, and love for Sherry who enjoys transforming long, tangled strands of natural and dyed reed, wooden bases, and found objects into woven, useful art!
